The Social Relief of Distress Grant (SRD) is a monthly payment given to South African Citizens, Asylum Seekers, Refugees, and Special Permit Holders who have insufficient means and don’t receive other social grants or UIF payments. The SRD application process requires verification of identity, residence, and income to ensure that beneficiaries are eligible for the program.
The SRD status verification process is simple and can be completed through various channels. Here are the most popular methods.
Check SASSA Status Online
The most convenient and reliable method for checking your SRD status is through the SASSA website. All you need is your South African ID number and the phone number associated with your SASSA account. Once you enter this information, you can view the status of your application in real-time.
If your status is “Approved,” you should be able to receive your payments within the next month or two. However, you should be prepared for delays as this is a very busy time for SASSA.
Check your SRD status with the help of a USSD code. To do this, dial *120*4# on your mobile phone and follow the automated voice prompts to provide your ID number and registered phone number. Then, you will get a PIN that you need to enter on the website to verify your identity and receive the latest update.
Alternatively, you can also visit any SASSA office with your application ID to check your status. There are multiple regional and local offices, including those in neighboring countries like Zimbabwe and Lesotho.
